Our guest for this show is Henry Chidgey, Co-Founder of Wildlife Analytical Laboratories. Join us as we discuss the process of how to accurately age a deer, or any other mammal, using the Cementum Annuli analysis method. This process is a real must for anyone implementing or following a Quality Deer Management (QDM) program that wants to make better select harvest decisions or back up their data with a scientific methodology. To some this is a new way to accurately age a deer, bear, elk , moose, sheep etc. or any other big game species, but it is a process that has been in the hands of researchers long enough to establish its accuracy and credibility, and now it is available to you as a low cost laboratory analysis. Aging deer by the wear of their teeth is like trying to age a car tire by looking at how much tread is left on it according to Chidgey , molar wear is not an accurate method for aging deer and we explore the science here to help you make better wildlife management decisions.
